Poem

eoto.

She was never alone in a room with no people.
Her head filled with voices that could prove to be lethal.
Some held her close and made her world peaceful,
while others spewed words that were purely deceitful.

She feared the majority, but loved one of the men
who’s made up in her mind, but not purely pretend.
He told her he loved her, and that her life shouldn’t end.
And the imaginary man had become her only real friend.

Through thick and the thin, as cliche as it seems
he stood by her side as the man of her dreams.
He held her together as she tore at the seams,
and kissed away tears that fell down in streams.

As she grew older, they grew apart
leaving a void in what was left of her heart.
She wanted to be free to have a new start,
so from all the voices, she had to depart.

Years come to pass, and she just barely got by.
Tired and broken, with no will but to die.
And that’s when she heard him, “It’s okay if you cry.”
So her tears turned to rivers until her eyes had run dry.

“Don’t leave,” she begged him, “stay here forever.
My life has become a hopeless endeavor.
I’ve missed you since our connection’s been severed.
I won’t let you go, not now, not ever.”

“Baby girl, don’t worry, I’ve never been far.
I’ve watched you closely, and I know it’s been hard.
The world has left you with even more scars,
but forever you’ll have my highest regards.”

He kissed her softly on her left cheek,
which told her more than any words he could speak.
Then he wrapped his arms around her physique,
and no longer did she feel as though she was weak.
